Callum Walker’s Charity Support

There is nothing unusual about having coffee in a kitchen, but when you can choose any one of 9 different kitchens on the same site, things become a little interesting. When Fiona, Callum Walker Interiors Home Economist, decided to invite some clients and friends along to the studio at Inveralmond, she thought that staff might make use of the opportunity to support the MacMillan Cancer Charity appeal by taking part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. It was a great success with everyone enjoying a catch up chat over a coffee and cake.
Bill Walker said “We don’t just have displays in the studio. We have fully functioning kitchens, and regularly invite clients in to try out appliances from a range of suppliers. Fiona came up with the idea of hosting an open house day in support of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning appeal, and I was happy to agree. She prepared what I can only describe as a feast of delicious offerings, and our coffee machines were running at full speed. We are extremely grateful to our clients for their support and for their donations. In recognition of the team’s efforts, a fantastic £580 was donated to MacMillan Cancer Support whose aim is to improve the lives of those affected by cancer. We are happy that our efforts have done a little to help achieve that aim”.
Callum Walker Interiors working with Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS)

Callum Walker Interiors are honoured to be working with CHAS at their children’s hospice Rachel House in Kinross.
We were approached by Alison Blair of CHAS and invited to visit Rachel House with the view to furnishing an arts and crafts area that they were relocating within the hospice. Our designer, John Watson, met with Alison on site and discussed the project at length, taking note of the specific requirements to form the new area in an existing room within the hospice. The main brief was to be simplistic and functional in design, the outcome was to ensure art and craft materials were accessible to all parties using them. This was achieved by designing a bespoke area to facilitate the storage of a wide variety of art and craft supplies. The choice of colours and materials were discussed and we came to a decision fairly early in the process opting to use our German manufacturer Burger as they gave us the wood finish and the complimentary colours we had discussed. A mixture of Burger horizontal grained pearwood cherry, burgundy red and mango doors and a light coloured Getacore work surface gives a bright cheery feel to the furniture run.
Knowing the work CHAS carry out with the help of their supporters and fundraisers there was no doubt in our minds we wanted to support and provide this facility with our compliments. Also donating their services to the project are local tradesmen Craig Farquharson (electrician), David Laird (plumber), Derek Addison (painter and decorator) and flooring specialist Tom Laing to ensure the project is handled from beginning to end with the love and care Rachel House deserves.
About CHAS
Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) is a charity that provides the only hospice services in Scotland for children and young people with life-shortening conditions.
CHAS runs two children’s hospices, Rachel House in Kinross and Robin House in Balloch. The hospices support the whole family by offering short planned breaks, emergency support, end of life care and a range of bereavement services. At any one time, Rachel House and Robin House can each accommodate eight children or young people and their families.
CHAS also provides a home care service, called CHAS at Home, staffed from both hospices and with a dedicated team in the North of Scotland. The service offers care to families in their own homes when they need it most.
Caring for a child or young person with a life-shortening condition can place extreme demands on a family, physically and emotionally, so CHAS tries to lighten the burden. No two families are the same and CHAS has the flexibility to respond to the individual needs of family members by providing professional care, practical help and emotional support.
CHAS supports over 250 families, as well as a significant number of families who receive bereavement support. The services are free to families who need them and are funded mainly through the generosity of the many supporters who help the charity to raise over £6 million needed each year to provide these vital hospice services.
Callum Walker Interiors encourage you all to visit www.chas.org.uk to find out more about the work CHAS carry out and how you can support them with their exceptional work.
